1968 Corvette Stingray 427ci big block 390 horsepower numbers matching car. This car is paint code 974 Rally Red with black interior. Car has power windows and 4-wheel disc brakes. No Reserve auction. Could be a once in a life time opportunity to buy a real 427 Corvette with born engine, transmission, and rear end for as cheap as $15k. We bought this car a few months ago from a guy who tells us that it sat for over 20 years in a building and has the born engine, transmission, and rear end installed by General Motors back in the 1960's. The car appears to have the original paint on the car that is weathered and faded.
The guy we bought it from signed a statement stating to the best of his knowledge that the engine, trans, and rear end were born to the car and from what we can see, it appears this is the case.
The car was not running when we bought it, and it had a leaking fuel tank and brake system leaked and would not hold brake fluid pressure.
We installed new points in the ignition have got the car running. We have flushed the transmission. We installed a new brake calipers and repaired brake system leaks so car will now brake.
We have driven the car down the road and back and it runs and drives and brakes. It can be started with ignition key, backed out of the garage, put in park and driven down the road and then packed back in the garage.
The engine will run for extended periods of time without over heating but probably has lots of miles on it and a rebuild I am sure would rejuvenate the engine.
Power steering, power windows, and heat blower motor works. Head lights and tail lights work. Engine tachometer works when car is running. Volt gauge also works along with engine buzzer and seat belt light.
Charging system has a draw overnight if battery negative terminal is not removed.
Block pad reads: T0417IQ 18S416663 Block Casting Number 3935439 Exhaust Manifolds 3880827 and 3880828 Intake 3937793 (One year only 1968 Corvette 390hp aluminum) Transmission tag shows 1968 Turbo 400 Automatic Car has what appears original window glass in good condition Water Pump, Power Steering Pump, and Valve Covers appear to be born to the car.
This car is rare and it is once in a blue moon to find one with the actual original born engine, trans, and rear end. Restored, this car should be worth as much as $50,000 and over time should rise in value.
Many cars are out there that are advertised as numbers matching but most have engines in them that never actually came in the car--- even if the dates and casting numbers come back as correct. They have been pieced back together with parts that originally came on other cars. This is not the case with this car's engine, trans, or rear end.
This car appears to have the actual born engine, trans, and rear end that GM originally installed along with original paint, glass, trim, carpet, seats, dash pad, etc etc.
I have a video on Youtube that is approximately 30 minutes long. Call me or message me if you want the link to the Youtube video showing many details of the car and the car being started up.
IMPORTANT: This car should be restored. The frame is rusted out and car will need repainting and other restoration services. However it will drive up and down the road and run without over heating and transmission goes into drive and reverse, along with brakes work to stop the car and head lights and tail lights are functional---power steering seems to work--as do the power windows. Overall, very good candidate for restoration. Car appears to never have been wrecked and is not damaged from collision. Its biggest problems are rust to frame and deterioration from age. Fiberglass body has a few areas were fiberglass has cracked but no damage from collision. Many parts on the car are in very good condition for being almost 50 years old.
FRAME: We do have a restored frame that is rust free, sand blasted, and painted black that we would sell for $1500 if you are interested in replacing the frame under this car with a rust free frame. This restored painted frame is on 4 rims and tires and rolls and is here at our shop, along with the Corvette we are attempting to sell!
Beauty rings on rally wheels are missing as is rear radio antenna. We would be willing to buy these items and install if this is a requirement for a buyer and will help get the car sold! I forgot to mention: we did install new fuel tank and fuel sender so car does not leak fuel. This was a re-list of a no reserve auction--up again for sale because Ebay buyer bid but did not have money to pay for it. We have added a reserve price this time and a lower starting bid. Ebay will not let us remove the statement in original description stating no reserve auction and own for as little as $15k because there are already bids. 15,797 miles from the odometer. Color codes from the trim plate. $12,800 and running. November 13, 2014. |
